KLD Leads the Way: 2nd Dasmariñas Research Congress

On April 30, 2025, the Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmariñas (KLD) hosted the 2nd Dasmariñas Research Congress, centered on the theme “Discoursing Contemporary Sustainability Issues in Education, Food Security, Science and Technology, and Climate Change for Building Smart and Resilient Communities.” This event was inspired by the City of Dasmariñas’s “Onward-Forward” development principle and the KLD Strategic Direction and Roadmap “Building the Foundation for the Dasmarineños.”
Dr. Juanito O. Cabanias, LPT, President/College Administrator of KLD, underscored the city’s proactive stance on sustainability projects that foster economic, social, and environmental development. He emphasized KLD’s role as a co-agent of transformation, dedicated to advancing the city’s knowledge economy through education and research, particularly among the younger generation.
Dr. Ernesto L. Bastida, Jr., Vice President for Research, Mission, and External Affairs, highlighted the urgent need for collective action to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. He stated that the congress provides a vital platform to address obstacles to sustainable development and exchange innovative practices.

The congress featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including keynote speaker Mr. Carlo Alcala Sanz, a “Magsasaka Siyentista” known for his sustainability leadership in the coffee industry. Plenary sessions will also feature insights from Dr. Aimee Lynn Barrion-Dupo, President of the National Research Council of the Philippines, and Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio, a NAST Academician from the University of the Philippines.

The congress also highlighted parallel sessions covering a wide array of research topics under the umbrella of education, food security, science and technology, and climate change, showcasing diverse efforts toward a sustainable future. It gathered students and graduate professionals from 62 institutions across the country, all coming together to present their research through oral presentations and the 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.

The 2nd Dasmariñas Research Congress stands as a light for interdisciplinary collaboration and a catalyst for actionable solutions, driving Dasmariñas and its partners towards a more sustainable and resilient tomorrow.

KLD’s Life-Saving Initiative: A Commitment to Community Health

KLD through its Institute of Nursing (ION), demonstrated its unwavering commitment to community well-being by actively participating in a recent bloodletting activity. Held on April 24, 2025, in partnership with Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas, this event saw a significant outpouring of generosity from volunteers. The initiative successfully collected 116 bags of blood, a testament to the community’s willingness to contribute to a life-saving cause.

KLD’s continuous efforts in organizing bloodletting activities underscore its dedication not only to academic excellence but also to holistic community development and public health. Each successful donation contributes to the well-being and survival of those in need within the City of Dasmariñas.

IMACS Tech Week 2025

After a two-year hiatus, the highly anticipated Tech Week 2025 of the Institute of Mathematical Applications and Computing Sciences made a triumphant return to KLD Campus Grounds from April 23 to 25, 2025. Under the captivating theme, “Syntax of the Stars: Writing the Code of Innovation,” the three-day celebration showcased the remarkable creativity, intelligence, and unity of the IMACS community, solidifying its commitment to innovation, diversity, and excellence.

The event included the exciting Cosplay Competition and the Mr. & Ms. IMACS 2025 pageant, where candidates showcased talent, intellect, and compassion.

Day two featured “The iExperience: The First Mobile IMAX in the Philippines,” allowing students to explore cosmic wonders. Various IS-Related Activities such as Quiz Bee, Speedtyping, and Figma Design Challenge also took place. Board games and E-Sports competitions (Mobile Legends, Tekken) further engaged participants. The event culminated on Day three with “GOT THE BEAT: The Ultimate Showdown Concert,” featuring a Battle of the Bands, Dance Battle, and Lip Sync Smackdown. A reflective video recap and a stunning fireworks display concluded the successful week.

The IMACS Tech Week 2025 successfully connected the administration, students, and other institutes, fostered innovation through diverse activities, and empowered students with recognition, skills, and experiences. This event proved to be a vibrant convergence of passion, talent, and vision within the IMACS community.

AIA Philippines Delivers Free Money Management Forum

On April 4, 2025, AIA Philippines, one of the nation’s leading insurance providers, hosted a Free Money Management Forum. Held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN at CB1, Room 1705, the event aimed to empower attendees with essential financial literacy.

The forum, facilitated by Ms. Anniefe Teodora Rodriguez, Agency Manager at AIA Philippines, provided valuable insights into managing personal finances effectively. AIA, known for its comprehensive insurance offerings and HMO services through Medicard, extended this initiative as part of its commitment to community well-being.

The session saw active participation from non-teaching personnel and on-the-job trainees, all eager to enhance their financial acumen. Notably, one dedicated faculty member also joined the attendees.

This free forum by AIA Philippines highlights the growing importance of financial education in today’s economic landscape. Initiatives like these provide accessible opportunities for individuals to gain knowledge for securing their financial future.

KLD Recognizes April 2025 Perfect Attendance Achievers

KLD has announced the list of non-teaching personnel and full-time faculty who achieved perfect attendance for the month of April 2025. This recognition not only celebrates the dedication and commitment of these individuals but also sets a commendable example for the entire KLD community. Perfect attendance reflects a strong work ethic and a profound commitment to the institution’s mission of “Building the foundation for the Dasmarineños”.

Building Champions: KLD’s Sports Program

KLD has launched a new, comprehensive sports program, approved on May 6, 2025. This initiative, championed by Sports and Wellness Development Coordinator Mr. Ojay D. Lanopa, Student Activities and Development Head Mr. Jet Martine S. Geronimo, and Institute of Student Affairs, Character Education and Citizenship (ISACEC) Dean Mr. Geordan L. Carungcong, aims for holistic student development. The Sports and Wellness Development Section focuses on fostering well-being through activities, promoting physical activity, healthy living, and personal growth. Their vision is to cultivate excellence, healthy lifestyles, integrity, teamwork, and respect among student-athletes.

The program divides into Varsity for competitive representation and Sports Organization for a player pool, hobbies, and general well-being. KLD’s diverse offerings include 16 sports, such as Basketball, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Arnis, Chess, and E-sports.

Recent tryouts included Taekwondo on May 10, led by Coach Emelito “EM” Aguilos, and Arnis on April 22, led by Coach Daniel Quitaleg. Upcoming summer tryouts are scheduled, with training commencing for combat sports (Taekwondo, Arnis, Boxing) and Table Tennis. Open Basketball tryouts are set for May 27, 2025.

KLD establishes Institute of Foundational Studies

In a significant stride towards enhancing the core academic experience, KLD established the Institute of Foundational Studies (IFS). This Institute will consolidate faculty members responsible for General Education (GE), Physical Education (P.E.), and National Service Training Program (NSTP) courses. The Institute of Foundational Studies is slated to officially commence operations in the upcoming academic year.

This strategic move highlights the College’s forward-thinking vision, recognizing that a strong foundation in diverse areas.at sports (Taekwondo, Arnis, Boxing) and Table Tennis. Open Basketball tryouts are set for May 27, 2025.

Grounds Maintenance and Improvement Unit

KLD is pleased to announce that the Grounds Maintenance and Improvement Unit has been recognized as the Office of the Month. This special acknowledgment highlights their consistent and exceptional contributions to maintaining the functionality of our campus.

Grounds Maintenance and Improvement Uni ensures  that KLD remains in its optimal state. Their daily efforts not only enhance the visual appeal of our college but also contribute significantly to a positive and conducive atmosphere for learning and teaching. Also, they are instrumental in the preparation during institutional events such as preparing venues, assisting with the setup of essential equipment, ensuring proper arrangements, and swiftly addressing any logistical needs that arise. Their readiness to support these events with efficiency and a helpful attitude allows organizers to focus on the content and success of each gathering.

Mr. Allan Jr. M. Militante, the Head of our Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, has been named Employee of the Month. This esteemed recognition acknowledges his exceptional leadership and significant contributions, particularly his pivotal role in spearheading the recently concluded Women’s Month celebrations.

Mr. Militante demonstrated remarkable initiative by expertly organizing a comprehensive array of activities. His efforts ensured a meaningful and impactful observance, marked by considerable participation from students, faculty, and staff. Beyond his direct unit responsibilities, Mr. Militante also frequently hosts events within KLD.
