Remembering Congressman Elpidio Barzaga: A stateman’s legacy lives on
In the recent passing of Hon. Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga, the entire community of Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmariñas mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant whose impact reverberated far beyond the halls of his district office. From his humble beginnings to his distinguished career in politics, Cong. Pidi leaves behind a legacy of integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his constituents.

Born and raised in the heart of Dasmariñas, Cavite, Elpidio Barzaga learned the values of hard work and perseverance from a young age. After graduating from high school, he went on to earn a degree in accounting from San Beda College and laws degree from Far Eastern University. Barzaga’s passion for public service led him to work as mayor of Dasmariñas, Cavite, where he advocated for issues besetting the education and healthcare sectors.
Barzaga’s political journey began at the local level, where he served as mayor of Dasmariñas before being elected as the incumbent district representative of the 4th District of Cavite. His ability to listen well to his constituents, along with his passion and knowledge of the law and legal system, earned him respect from peers in the lower chamber. In the House of Representatives, Barzaga distinguished himself as a champion for environmental conservation, healthcare reform, education, and economic prosperity.

Throughout his tenure, Congressman Barzaga remained deeply connected to the people he represented. Whether attending meetings or visiting constituents in their homes, he made it a priority to listen to their concerns and advocate on their behalf. His relentless efforts resulted in tangible improvements in education, infrastructure, and access to healthcare for countless families in his district.


Elpidio Barzaga’s legacy extends far beyond his legislative accomplishments. He leaves behind a blueprint for principled leadership and a commitment to serving the common good. His advocacy for the underprivileged and marginalized serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy and compassion in public service. Barzaga’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of leaders to strive for a more just and equitable society.
As the we bid farewell to Congressman Elpidio Barzaga, we are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of others. His legacy of service, integrity, and compassion will endure as a testament to the power of principled leadership. Though he may be gone, his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched and the ideals he championed. Cong. Pidi’s legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come.



𝐊𝐋𝐃 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐄𝐓 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩
A total of 150 nursing and midwifery students from the Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmariñas (KLD) participated in the OET Skills Workshop held on April 16, 2024.
The workshop aimed at helping students to become prepared for the OET Pulse, a test which focuses on the assessment of all four (4) English proficiency skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
Mr. Alvin C. Alonzo, OET-Education Specialist, provided a comprehensive discussion on OET strategies and practices designed to hone students’ healthcare communication skills. Along with him was Mr. James Darryl Macalisang, Business Development Manager, who served as moderator during the session.
Dr. Juanito Cabanias, KLD President/CollegeAdministrator, together with Dr. Fe Compas, OIC-Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dir. Rudy Bhonne De Lara, Director for Linkages and External Relations, also attended the program.


KLD-ION, PD join forces for blood-letting activity
The KLD-Institute of Nursing (ION) conducted a blood-letting activity in partnership with the Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas (PD) on April 22, 2024 at the KLD Gym, College Building 1.
With the theme, “Donate Blood and Save Lives”, this initiative opened an opportunity for Dasmarineños to participate in a blood-donation drive with a common goal of saving people’s lives. Donating blood is a life-saving endeavor, thereby contributing positively to the community.
Through the collaborative efforts among ION faculty members headed by Dean Fe Compas, PD doctors, volunteers, and blood donors, the blood-letting activity was a success. Out of 267 registered blood donors, 128 of them were able to donate successfully.

𝐊𝐋𝐃 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐔𝐏
The KLD-Office of the Vice President for Research, Mission and External Affairs (OVPRMEA) conducted a benchmarking activity with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) on April 1, 2024.
The KLD delegation was composed of directors and heads of the different RMEA centers headed by Dr. Ernesto L. Bastida, Vice President.
Present in the activity were Dir. Cecille Raquel C. Alvaran, Director for Center for Knowledge Management; Dr. Arianne Grace M. Revilla, Director for Elpidio F. Barzaga, Jr. Research Centers for Sustainable Governance, Jerbert M. Abargos, Head of Internationalization and Global Relations Unit; Jet Maritime S. Geronimo, Head of Ethics Review Board and concurrent Head of Gender and Development; Rona Liezl C. Hernandez, Head of Faculty Research Unit; Maria Beatriz M. Malicdem, Head of Industry Engagements and Partnerships Unit; Jhonies G. Saysi, Head of Publications Unit; Lodelio D. Millo, Head of Data Protection Unit; Asst. Prof. Maria Archie A. Cabig, Head of Center for Dasmariñas Culture, Heritage, and Tourism; Lynne Orby G. Bayot, Head of Center for Public Policy and Social Affairs; Justine Joy N. Sabanal, Head of Center for Health Security and Population Studies; Cesar D. Galingana, Head of Center for Smart Engineering, Emerging Technologies and Innovations; Dr. Maria Lyn S. Alcanses, Head of Data Smart Analytics Unit; and Teresa Jazmin C. Evangelista, OVPRMEA staff.
In addition, the PUP officials who personally welcomed the KLD delegates were Dr. Anna Ruby P. Gapasin, Vice President for Research, Extension and Development, together with the directors and chiefs of the university’s research sector: Dr. Angelina E. Borican, Assistant to the Vice President for Research, Extension and Development; Dr. Jackie D. Urrutia, Director for Research Management Office; Dr. Rolan J. Malvar, Director for Extension Management Office; Dr. Jose Reuben Alagaran II, Director for Publications Office; Dr. Armin S. Coronado, Director for Research Institute for Science and Technology Research; Orlando D. Tubola, Director for Research Institute for Strategic Foresight and Innovation; Dr. Nicolas T. Mallari, Director for Research Institute for Human and Social Development; Jerome P. Permejo, Chief for Center for Gender Training and Advocacy; and Lorraine Charmayne S. Manansala, Chief for Center for GAD Focal Point System.
The benchmarking activity fosters possible collaborations between the two HEIs toward research excellence. Through this visit, the KLD delegates were able to gain knowledge and discover best practices in research production, presentation, publication, and patent.

KLD signs MoU with new industry partners
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed between the Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmarinas (KLD) and its new industry partners, the Chunnel and Channel Realty Marketing and Development Corp. and the People’s Bulletin, on April 1, 2024.
Representing KLD during the signing was Hon. Raul Rex D. Mangubat, Acting Mayor of the City of Dasmarinas; Ariel San Gabriel, City Administrator; Dr. Juanito O. Cabanias, President/College Administrator; Rudy Bhonne R. De Lara, Director for Linkages and External Relations; and Jaycee N. Toledo, Head of Center for Emergency Management, Security and Safety.
Chunnel and Channel Realty Marketing and Development Corp. was represented by Dr. Ronnel P. Ybañez, CEO and Ellie Mae P. Ybañez, Vice President. On the other hand, People’s Bulletin was represented by Michelle V. Caiña, President and Mark Anthony B. Caiña, Advertising/Business Manager.
The MoU intends to forge educational and industrial collaborations between the KLD and other two private institutions.



Office of the Month
The Admissions and Testing Unit (ATU) was recognized as the Office of the Month for its outstanding commitment, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to excellence.
ATU is under the Academic Services headed by Director Geordan Carungcong and Joshua De Fiesta . Their tireless efforts in ensuring seamless admissions processes and accurate testing procedures have significantly contributed to the success and efficiency of the unit. Likewise, their attention to detail, collaborative spirit, and customer-centric approach have not gone unnoticed.
ATU’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and service reflects positively on the entire institution. Congratulations, ATU!
